Life Update: I Started Taking Claravis, I'm 21, and More

Welcome back to my blog, everyone!

In today's blog post, I am doing a life update. I've been so busy blogging, doing school work, and preparing for an exciting event-- more details to come soon! I wanted to take this time to sit down and chat with y'all. Let's get personal:

I started isotretinoin.

Let's cut to the chase: we all have our own insecurities. Mine just happens to be my skin. In middle school, I suffered with acne during puberty. But, so did everyone else, so who cares? In high school, my skin started to even out. My breakouts only came once a month. Now, I'm 21 years old and it's as if my puberty acne is back 10x harder. I decided to see a dermatologist. I felt like it was controlling my life. My dermatologist told me there were a variety of options, but I desperately wanted a long-term solution.

I am about to complete my second month of isotretinoin. Within the first week, I experienced symptoms. As the weeks progressed, the symptoms intensified:

  • Dry lips
  • Dry scalp
  • Dry hair
  • Mood swings
The symptoms were (and are) definitely a pain to deal with. However, I've noticed when I moisturize repeatedly and drink several bottles of water, it's tolerable. (I am just about done my second month!) Read more about the drug here.

The countdown is on: 7 Weeks!

My last semester is a little over halfway done. I couldn't be more excited. I'll be honest: I am most excited for my Spanish class to be over. I am just about the only non-native in the class. With that being said, it is very, very difficult. I struggle to keep up with the lectures. I have to record them and have my boyfriend work through them with me. (I really appreciate that, Andres!)

However, I think I would rather stay in Spanish forever than finish up my schooling. I am so sad my time at Cabrini University is coming to an end.

Andres and I celebrated our one year anniversary.

Last month, my boyfriend and I celebrated our one year anniversary. Check out our One Year Anniversary video here.

I still have no idea what career I want to pursue.

Though I am majoring in psychology and minoring in English and Spanish, I don't know what I want to do exactly. I think I would like to first work in a school and eventually work my way up to being an immigration psychologist.

I turned 21!

Last Friday, I turned 21! I had such a wonderful day spent with family and friends. My morning started off with my boyfriend bringing me pink roses and thoughtful gifts. We wrapped up my birthday celebration at Maggiano's, where I had a Lorenzo's Long Island. Then, my mom let me play a few games at the casino. I had a blast!

Apple watch.

I got an apple watch-- and am loving it! Being a girl on the go, this device comes in handy all the time. I love that I can check my email, make phone calls, etc. It's super convenient!

Bedroom Wish List

Welcome back to my blog, everyone! I know I recently shared a birthday wish list on my blog, but I couldn't resist posting this one. I am planning on redoing my bedroom in the near future. Way back when, I teamed up with another blogger to share my room tour with y'all. I am due for an upgrade!

Gray Bedding

I've tried a variety of different comforters before: plain and patterned. This time, I want to combine a neutral color with a textured fabric.

Blush Pink Throw Blanket

The perfect accent! It will brighten up the gray space I've created.

White Throw Pillow

Again, because I am creating a darker space, I want some lighter accents to balance it out.

A new candle is the perfect way to freshen up any space. I love my fall/winter scented candles.

Night Stand

I love the look of this night stand; it's so modern! I also like the woven design on the one side of the shelf.

Woven Basket

I see these everywhere on Pinterest. I've been dying to get my hands on one to throw my blankets and spare pillows in.

Floor Lamp

I don't think I've ever had a floor lamp before. This one will definitely make the room more cozy.

I'd like to throw a floor length mirror in the corner of my room to make it look bigger.

Greenery is key into making a space look more welcoming and lively.

Bed Frame

I'm also planning on getting a new bed frame. I really like this gray one from IKEA. However, I also like it in white. So, we'll see!

Thanks for reading! I'm looking forward to redoing my room with y'all. I'll definitely do a post on my new room tour once it's complete.

21 Things I Learned Before I Turned 21

This month I turn 21! (October 25th at 10:35 P.M. to be exact.) I am so excited. I decided to share 21 things I learned before I turn 21 with y'all:

1. Your voice is a powerful tool-- use it.

Use it to make a difference.

2.Traveling with your S.O. is a different, yet wonderful experience.

Andres and I went to Walt Disney World with my family last winter. We had so much fun, but more than that, I learned so much about him. It was truly a memorable experience.
3. If a guy hates dancing, but does so anyway for you, then he’s a keeper.

Andres kiddingly jokes that he has two left feet-- and he just might-- but he dances through it. I love him for that.

4. Public speaking isn’t the worst thing ever.

Last spring, I decided to share my essay, The Impact of Immigration on Mental Health, with fellow students in various honors programs around the area. It actually went really well. Read more about it here.

5. Good things come to those who wait.

And more good things are to come. (I can't wait to share them with you.)

6. Always, always, always apply sunscreen evenly.

I don’t even want to think about the time my stomach looked like a red and white zebra.

7. Jumping into a freezing waterfall is the truest act of love there is.

If that’s not the definition of commitment, I don’t know what is. We actually posted some pictures on our blog, Everything We Ever Wanted.

8. Finding Lilly Pulitzer items on the clearance wrack at TJ Maxx is a rare sight; pick up everything.

9. My dad’s cooking is actually pretty good.

Who knew... my dad can actually cook! He makes a mean steak.

10. I still can’t eat a s’more mess-free.

My mom bought me one of those $6 s’mores from Walt Disney World. Long story short: I think I only ate about 60% of it. The other 40% ended up on my face and hands.

11. A planner is a girl’s best friend.

No one else is going to keep track of all of my #SeniorYear assignments. Click here to see how I organize my planner.

My sister is the coolest person in the world-- and for more than just buying me a Kate Spade purse.

That may have something to do with it… but seriously! She is the coolest and smartest person I know.

13. Wear whatever the hell you want to wear.

It's never your fault. #MeToo

14. Taylor Swift’s song, “The Man,” is an accurate representation of society's double standards.

I could pick out at least 10 lines in the song that apply to different aspects and events in my everyday life.

15. Mom and Dad are still always right.

I’ve been saying this since I was 18. It’s still true.

16. Being 1,000+ miles away from your best friend is the hardest thing you’ll ever go through.

17. Love is when you have feelings for someone that so intense, you’re afraid to lose that person.

It's so intense.

18. My grandmother is one of the strongest women in the world: suck it to cancer.

It was a long 5 months, but she kicked cancer's butt. I couldn't be more proud of her.

19. When girls exclude you from events, send you extremely hurtful text messages, and whisper about you behind your back, there is only one explanation: they’re jealous.

People put others down to make themselves feel better.

20. Uno is the most addicting app; if you don’t want to procrasinate your homework, don’t download it.

My mom and I play every night.

21. Change is hard, but it’s worth everything.

Change is challenging. But, it's exciting, too!

My 21st Birthday Wish List

In just a few days, I'll be celebrating my 21st birthday; I'm so excited! I'm not sure what I have planned, but either way I know I'm going to have a blast.

Below is my 21st birthday wish list. I do one just about every year, so I couldn't end the trend here:

Tree Hut Shea Sugar Scrub

I am a huge, huge, huge fan of scrubs. I absolutely adore the Bath & Body Works scrubs. However, I recently discovered Tree Hut's lip scrubs and fell in love. I would love to try out their body scrubs.

Taylor Swift Wonderstruck Enchanted Perfume

This perfume will forever be my favorite. It's the perfect fall/winter scent, too!

Cucumber De-Tox Foaming Cleanser by Peter Thomas Roth

I've gone through about a dozen bottles of this stuff. It works wonders!

Lululemon Athletica Baller Hat Run

I love all things Lululemon. I've been on the hunt for a white baseball cap for awhile. This one will go with all of my workout gear.

Kate Spade Taylor Medium Cosmetic Case

My sister, Natalie, is the sweetest person in the whole wide world. As a going away present, she got me a black Kate Spade tote bag. I use it everyday. I would love to get a matching cosmetic bag for when I travel.

Tommy Hilfiger Imina Riding Boots

Riding boots are my go to shoe during the fall and winter season. I would love to invest in a good quality pair of riding boots like these.

Lululemon Athletica On My Level Tote

I love tote bags. (My mom jokingly calls me Mary Poppins because I have anything and everything in my tote bag at all times.) This one would be perfect for my gym clothes, yoga mat, etc.

Tuff Athletics Yoga Pants

I'm a huge fan of Lululemon leggings. However, I love these ones so much more. Unfortunately, my dad did wash one day and ruined them. I really need a replacement pair. These leggings were my everything!

AirPods with Charging Case

Since I've been going to the gym a lot more-- and getting into the heavy weight lifting stuff, I thought these would be helpful. Also, they're totally trendy!

Kate Spade Spencer Zip-Around Continental Wallet

Like I mentioned earlier, my sister was so kind and got me a Kate Spade tote bag. This wallet would match perfectly. Not to mention, it can fit all of my cards!
